WHAT IS NITROUS oxide SEDATION?

Nitrous oxide, sometimes referred to as laughing gas, is a type of anesthesia that can be inhaled using a specialized mask that fits over the nose. This type of sedative is safe, effective and can be used for patients of all ages. The process of administering nitrous oxide is easy and quick, and the effects wear off quickly once the procedure has been completed.

WHY IS NITROUS oxide SEDATION NEEDED?

Patients might choose nitrous oxide sedation if they are nervous about having dental treatment done and want to benefit from some type of sedation without necessarily being asleep for the procedure. Nitrous oxide can also be used to help children relax during dental treatment.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR NITROUS SEDATION?

Most patients can be candidates for nitrous oxide sedation. We will review your health and medical history to determine if and when you'd benefit from sedation.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE NITROUS SEDATION PROCESS?

We will place a small mask over your nose and instruct you to breathe in. The sweet-smelling gas will begin to work almost immediately, relaxing and calming you while we begin the actual procedure. Once the mask is removed, the effects wear off relatively quickly. However, we do recommend you bring a driver with you to your appointment, if using nitrous oxide.
